Buying jeans that are just a bit too tight and cluttering our fridges with images cut from fitness magazines are just some ways we try to motivate ourselves to hit the gym. It does work to some degree until our alarm is buzzing at 5:30am and we decide it’s only one day so we’re going to skip the workout but tomorrow we’ll be right back on. Then before we know it, it’s been three months and those jeans are stuffed way in the back of the closet never to be seen again.

Back in early March, I was at the Patagonia Live Simply Tour and after a wonderfully relaxing yoga practice, was given a delicious green juice by Belmonte Raw. Now I’m not new to juicing; I like my apple, carrot, and beet juice in the morning and the occasional kale, celery, ginger, and lemon if I feel so inclined but something about this Belmonte Raw cucumber, spinach, parsley, apple, lemon and ginger juice really struck me. Maybe it was the fact that it tasted so amazing and fresh or maybe it was because I didn’t have to prepare it myself, but I knew I had to try more.

Ever notice how after a big box gym locks you in to a ridiculous contract (often upwards of three years), they completely forget who you are, what your goals are and anything else relevant about you. You end up at the gym for hours a day just running on the treadmill because you don’t know what else to do and by the end of your contract (or God forbid, you try to cancel early), the only thing you’ve lost is dollars. Well that’s NOT what you’ll find at CircuitFIT.
I met Alex Savva, founder of CircuitFIT, at the door of the boutique gym for my free demo. Right away, you could see and feel the difference. Savva was just finishing up with a client; he was attentive to her while still welcoming me. The facility was small but impressive. I watched as one man, I’m guessing in his late fifties, finish his rounds on the circuit and leave. It’s an efficient system they have at CircuitFIT but does it work?

I have been very fortunate for the opportunity to teach group fitness classes at Ryerson University this year. While I think most of my teaching gigs are awesome (and I am thankful for those opportunities too), Ryerson is different because they offer a variety of classes that just aren’t available in other facilities. Like the much talked about ViPR class; man is it tough! I saw a poster for an upcoming event featuring Marc Lebert’s Equalizer and thought to myself, everybody needs to check this out! So I tracked down Fitness Programs Coordinator, Kennedy Lodato, to discuss the different events and demos Ryerson has to offer. As a fitness advocate who has been dedicated to the industry for over two decades, this guy knows what he’s talking about. Be sure to join the Lebert Equalizer Workshop and catch me doing some of the demos too!

Toronto is seriously awesome! Yesterday I was invited to Patagonia‘s Live Simply Tour featuring a free yoga class with Lydia Zamorano and a slide show with Patagonia climbing ambassador, Sonnie Trotter. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make the slide show portion but the class was fantastic!
