The Water Brothers QUENCH app is a great way to find a friendly location in the GTA to (re)fill your personal reusable water bottle (everyone has one these days, right?). This Toronto specific application was developed in partnership with BlueW, and sponsors Brita, TVO and the Bell New Media Fund.
Grouping participating retailers and restaurants into two categories the Quench app will point you to a refill station (R) or a easily accessible water fountain (F) which are then displayed in your general area. Finding the closes free source of water has never been easier. Keep an eye out for the Quench logo at nearby locations to verify official supporters of the free water program, but also note that additional suggested locations, often times crowd sourced, are also listed in the application – these locations indicate that another Quench user was able to get a refill at this location but they are not (yet) official supporters of the Quench program.
I’ve been using this application for about 2 months now, on my iPad, to successfully get free water refills all over the city, which has the benefit of preventing a number of $2 transactions to my checking account for water or other sugary drinks.

Last week in Toronto we got a sneak peek and Hands-On demo of some of Toshiba’s Tablets, Ultrabooks and more all available for the 2012 Holiday Season. Better hope you’re not on that naughty list.
First up, we looked at the Excite Series of Toshiba Tablets. The Excite 7.7, Excite 10 and the Excite 13 are sturdy, have aluminum shells and Gorilla Glass displays. Ranging in size and starting price, Toshiba hopes to give options to folks looking for a powerful home or portable quad-core tablet.
Andrew from Toshiba Canada gives us the low-down.

On September 9th the call went out and a crowd gathered at Toronto’s Fort York on a pilgrimage to honour the Punk Rock gods for Riot Fest 2012. With intermittent cloud cover and the looming threat of rain all day the show must go on and go on it did. The day was promising to be perfect for an outdoor event, just enough cloud cover to keep the heat at bay and make for a comfortable transition into the evening.

Over the weekend something magical happened here in the city, Surfers Healing rode into town to spread a little Aloha right here in Toronto.
Aloha Toronto was dreamed up after Helen Hatzis traveled to Izzy Paskowitz’s Surf Camp, where she was fortunate enough to experience the effect of the Surfer’s Healing program first hand. This experience blossomed into a dream, three years in the making, that would end by bringing Surfers Healing team to the families of the GTA.
Community & Culture covers a wide range of events and organizations that add to Toronto’s Awesomeness. We will explore the diversity that lives within our neighbourhoods, our people, and the things that help expose the culture we share.
Oh Maria Maria!
Carlos Santana rocked the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on Saturday night! In front of a lively crowd Carlos and the Band serenaded the audience with three solid hours of awesome music. A musical journey reaching from Woodstock to today, all topped off with an amazing drum solo performed by Mrs. Cindy Blackman Santana, independent artist and former drummer for Lenny Kravitz.
Surprising the audience with early performances of Black Magic Woman and Smooth the stage continued to rain sweet sweet music on those gathered with a cover of the Zombies’ She’s not there, Evil Ways and Oye Como Va. With his long career the evening was a Carlos Santana’s Greatest Hits LIVE. Those gathered for the festivities could not have asked for a better night – the air was crisp and a gentle breeze from the lake kept the heat of the day at bay for those inclined to dance away the night.

As an entrepreneur who can you turn to for help planning your businesses goals or learning from the wisdom of others? Some people look for a mentor, others dial into the BusinessCast – Canada’s leading podcast dedicated to the entrepreneurial spirit. I met up with one of the hosts behind the BusinessCast Andrew Brown and turned the interviewing chairs around asking him the questions for a change.
Who’s behind the BusinessCast?
The BusinessCast is created and produced by Robert Gold the Managing Partner of Toronto-based Bennett Gold LLP, Chartered Accountants; and Andrew Brown, President of the business communications consulting firm, Write On The Money.
Describe the BusinessCast in one paragraph?
Like other well-known social media blogs, we have successfully grown our reach over the last five years. We had originally focused on small and mid-sized urban-based businesses. But, after doing some market research, and hearing from our listeners, we discovered that our content was also being used by large companies across industries, throughout Canada. That helped us to solidify our targeting to “entrepreneurs” — which is a short form for “passionate growth-oriented business professionals who are always striving to innovate” — regardless of the size or age of company they lead.
